So. In light of the lack of any template I'll be all free-form here. Heads up - I can get long winded and ramble. I probably will. Especially with small text boxes like this where I don't realize how much I've typed until it's too late. Sorry.

So. I'm going to be looking for an LS soon. I had some old friends from ffxi I was originally planning on making one with way back when this came apart, but that fell apart when they left. … I have doubts they'll ever come back either. Although one can hope.

I've been randomly talking to people in shells around Istory to try and find out about a few, and most seem to have things that wouldn't be fun for me. Some of lots of things that wouldn't be fun for me. My ideal LS would…
1: Be small(ish)

2: Not use DKP

3: Not Require Vent… or if it is required, at least only
require it for events, and not all the time.

4: Have Nice People Around

5: Not have those people be /so/ nice that they forgive people who simply play badly/make consistently poor choices.

6: Have people around who aren't /too/ much younger than me. Or, at least, don't act too much younger than me.

7: Does stuff in a time zone I can make… which is a tricky requirement, because i'm not entirely sure what my schedule is. I just got a new part time job, and am larglye doing night work (EST) 2-3 days a week. The rest of the week, I'm trying to keep a night schedule (waking up around 3 or 4 est). You said you do stuff around EST afternoons? What's afternoon to you? 2? 6? This is just tricky though, because I don't get to work nights /all/ the time, and I'm not sure what my own schedule is going to end up as month to month.

8: I'm also looking for a shell that won't vanish anytime soon!

I know a few people in this shell tangentially (mostly people who are/were in Pony), but don't really know much about the actual ls.

From looking at the forum here and looking at it on xipro it doesn't seem to be a huge ls, at least. Even if it's not small. And looking at the forum here, I saw a post from July I think that said you all weren't using DKP (at that point in time, at least). I can't really speak to the niceness/lack thereof in people I don't know yet, but Howl seemed like a good guy in Pony at least. I know Zelphar's there too, although we haven't talked much.

So that's what I'm after in an ls. I guess you guys can tell me if you think you're a reasonable match or not as far as that goes.

A bit about me… I live in the US, and have a part-time (mostly) night job working at a hospital. The rest of my time I'm studying for medical school entrance exams that I'll take this coming spring/summer. I'm not in college anymore though; I'm just studying on my own. So I don't have a /ton/ of time to put in the game, but I'm also never going to study more than five hours a day or anything, so I should have a fair amount of time left (and then lots, for one year, after my exams).

I played ffxi for a long time on Alexander, with brief stints on Hades and Carbuncle before I ended up quitting (just before abysea). I don't know what servers any of you were on; my charachter was Kristenn if you knew me though. I was a whm (and drg/whm, for fun and laughs).

On FFXIV I'm a lancer for now. My first character was Yoli, actually, and got to 50 gladiator. I tanked for the Prismatic Llama with her at the start of the game, but eventually got a bit tired of waiting on the updates, and my friends had quit, so I vanished as well. I came back as an lancer because she had awesome-pretty circle-braided hair, and Istory had a surplus of cats (though I do miss my tail…) I'm 49 on lancer now, and should be 50 in…. I dunno. About two leve resets or after one good xp party. Soon enough.

Moving along.

Melian Epilleve: Everything you'd want to know about me from lodestone. I have the majority of the relevant lv 20 traits for lancer from other jobs, and took pugilist up to 36 to get second wind two and the affinity trait to lower recast on that and feather foot etc. I was working on carpentry to fix my lances, but that fell behind a bit (and doesn't work on my Banneret +1 either ~.~). I'm not sure which craft I'll take if/when we're limited to one.

Progression:
In ffxi some people leveled up lots of jobs to 75. Sometimes quickly. I was not one of those people. For most of my seven or eight years there whm was the only job I played (and drg/whm, like I said, which I soloed up initially as a joke/challenge, but came to enjoy a lot). I got everything for all of them up to 37, but never really worried about getting any job other than my main to 75.

In ff14 that's bad. For now. Since we're basically using a system where subjobs aren't capped, so everything should be at 50. … and if it stays that way, I'll end up leveling everything to 50 to get my lancer working well. But with the upcoming release of the new (old) jobs, and no one knowing exactly how that works, I'm hesitant to spend a ton of time xping things I don't want to xp, when it might be the case that they're simply not needed once paladin/dragoon/white mage/etc come out.

When I finish lancer shortly, I do plan on progressing everything up to 36 though (mostly so I can complete the job stories - getting useful abilities is of course a handy bonus). Then I'm OCD enough I'll probably take them to 40 for a better "looking" stop point. I'm sure the new jobs will be out by the time I get everything to 40 though.

Will Your Main Class Ever Change:
I honestly don't know, so I'll say it might. It's entirely dependent on what SE does with the jobs in the future, and what new jobs are released, etc. As of now, I don't plan on changing main jobs from LNC. But It's quite possible I might be taken with white mage in the future, and I'll switch to dragoon from lancer when that's here. My original aim was to play summoner this time around (which clearly isn't possible yet, but will be one day, I'm sure).

What Linkshells Are You In:
Currently, just pony. It looks like you guys don't make people drop chat shells, since I've seen some of you in Pony, and that's nice. I don't think I'd want to join an LS that wouldn't let me keep a chatls around (especially if my old xi friends to eventually come back, I'll want to talk to them).

On my first character (Yoli Kohlpaka) I was in the Prismatic Llama. I'm hoping you either don't use DKP (they did), or you don't require vent (they did). Preferably both. Any of those things would probably make me enjoy my time in the ls a bit more than I did there (although they were nice enough people - I don't really have anything negative to say about them.)

What Can You Contribute to an LS:
Well. I don't play as much as I did back in ffxi by a long shot. My exam studying and job work have me pretty busy now. But I like to think I'm fairly good to have around, and I still have a decent amount of free time despite my new rl obligations.

I made a good whm in ffxi, and (not to offend anyone but…) lancer seems a lot easier to play decently here than whm was there. I can pay attention, I show up on time, and I let people know if I'm not going to be able to show up.

I take things seriously and try to work on my gear as best I can, but I also understand that the game is designed so that those fun toys aren't /needed/ to beat things. Which is probably a good step from xi. I was really hung up on little things like that there. I think all the inter-ls competition helped that sort of negative attitude though, and there seems to be a lot less of that (none, almost) here. It's hard to have inter ls competition with instances and 5 minute repop nm's on the open world. Not like camping KB for Defending Rings.

Did You Ever Have a Leadership Role in an LS:
Well. In xi I was in my ideal ls (small, no vent, good players, nice people, no dkp), and was given a pearlsack there. It was kind of a token pearlsack I think, as it was a Japanese ls and I was (usually) the only English person around.

As far as actual leadership qualities go though… since this isn't a real job interview and I get to be honest… no. I'm not much of a leader at all. I can follow directions fantastically, but I'm just not good at grouping people together, getting them started on time, managing their conflicts, etc, etc. Otherwise I'd be enterprising and try to start an ls that fit my ideal exactly, instead of trying to find the one that's closest too it :(.

Well. I think I've pretty much gotten down enough to communicate what I'm looking for, who I am, and what my jobs are… if you have any questions ask away and I'll answer.

Maybe I should have split this up into two threads, first asking about you all and then applying if you were a good match. Because that's really what this is. I went and talked about myself a bunch, but you guys being a good fit for me (or not) is definitely the most important thing. Well - I'll talk to you later. Thanks for reading this. Feel free to poke me in game as well, if you can catch me there.

Hey Melian :)
Thanks for your app, I just wanted to post some feed back so you know that we have received your app. I think we've spoken in Pony before, so its good to see your app.

Gail Fantastic is the leader and will make the final decision.

So yeah, we got your app, I'd like to say we are everything your looking for small-ish, eventful, active, we wont make you drop any other social shells ect…

There is an actual application template now, if you look in he top left hand corner of our page theres a small box called Recruitment. However, you took the time to type out this app, so I dont see no problem with just going off this :3

We were talking about implementing a DKP system a while back, just before 1.18 hit. We ended up not going with one. This might change depending on the direction SE takes.

Hi Melian, thats quite an application. =ω=
But i'm sure that there are things to ask directly also.
I will talk to you in game when I see you, we might be busy right after the patch I'm sure you might be too!
So please bear that in mind I'll speak to you in game when I can.

Sure thing~ I might be a bit tricky to catch this week since I'm studying up on my job stuff for the "do you get to keep this job" test they're making me take, but I'll probably be on some too. Smart money says I'll be escorting chocobos somewhere :x.

I'll poke you if I see you, feel free to do the same (any of you). Otherwise I'll just check in here now and then and you can leave a message in case it's hard to get a hold of me in game.

Sorry for running on long and missing the other recruit section.
